I finally got a chance to work on my car the last couple of weekends. I have not posted because I have not driven the car much this summer nor have I had a chance to work on it. I knew from the few times I drove the car this summer that I probably had a few bad primary fuel injectors. It had a bad lean stumble until about 3000 RPM until the car warmed up and after warm up, it was missing at idle. So much that the dual mass flywheel knock made it sound like the bottom end was going to come apart any second. I was even getting some gear rattle because of the poor idle.
Last weekend I measured the coil resistance of the primary fuel injectors. Two of them measured around 6.5 ohms and two measured around 9.5 ohms. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that these four injectors were the cause of the problems. The other 4 measured fine. I had already purchased a set of primary injectors so a plenum pull was in order. This weekend I pulled the plenum and replaced all of the primary injectors with the new ones. I measured the coil resistance on the secondary injectors and they were all fine. I put the secondaries in new about 1&1/2 years ago. I have the injectors in and the fuel rails all put back together. I just have to pressure test the rails before I put the plenum back on. I also like to make sure the connections to the fuel injectors are good before I put the plenum back on.
I also puchased new coils earlier this year so I am taking off of work early today so I can get the coils in and get the thing all buttoned back up and go for a test run. Hopefully all will go well and the car will be a beast again.
About a month ago Kurt White had a special on Fidanza aluminum flywheels so I bought one. It looks like a real nice piece. I am hoping to get it installed in the next few weeks. Just in time to put the car away for the winter.
